TO
YOU, TO SURI LLAMAS AND TO YOUR BREEDING PROGRAM
The SLA Keuring offers a thorough individual evaluation
of your suri llama or suri llama producer (Bloodstock) according
to the SLA Suri Llama Breed Standard. The llama is judged
only against the standard, never against other llamas. Keurings
develop and improve the quality of the breed by rating specific
strengths and weaknesses. Breeders may then use these scores
to help select the best breeding pairs.
The keuring process assists inexperienced suri llama buyers
wishing to enter the market as well as experienced breeders
with their selection of quality foundation breeding stock.
Lasting investment value to the suri llama breed will be
attained through a strong breed association, and a thorough
keuring process.
Through consistent keuring evaluations and selective breeding
practices, breeders can achieve a high level of consistency
and predictability in their suri llama breeding programs.
Results compiled in the SLA database will provide valuable
information and statistics to assess the characteristics of
specific bloodlines.
After attaining at least the average minimum fiber score
(55 points), the suri llama will be entered into the Suri
Llama Registry. It then goes on to be inspected for conformation
and movement and will receive a photoenhanced official SLA
Registration Certificate. Suri llama producers (non-suri)
will be keured using only the conformation and movement score
sheet and upon passing, will be entered into the SLA Registry
as Bloodstock.
Further value for suris and bloodstock may be attained upon
achievement of various keuring awards.
